Fiddle musical instrument presented en masse is remarkably fascinating. The sound engendered from sentimentality reverberates in the magnificent enclosed space as if the grieving and despondent heart was inspired to preserve the dreamy seriousness of the classical musical instrument. It was the atmosphere of music concert at the closing of the Fiddle Workshop in Natya Mandala Building of the Indonesia Arts Institute (ISI) of Denpasar, Monday (Nov 28).
How an amazing music art performance it was. Dressed in a simple fashion and choreography, they looked stunning. Moreover, the musicians were categorized to be relatively new denoting the participants of the fiddle workshop held in the ISI Denpasar for a week. Subject matters of the workshop were starting from introduction, assessments up to presentation before the public, so the sense of feeling against the tones played became more alive.
In the presentation, each participant of the workshop was accompanied by his mentor. The first group presented the composition entitled Gending Gineman Kumambang and Jaran Sirig in selendro gamut composed by IB Arsaja. This composition was also accompanied with four units of gender gamelan music, while others were dominated by fiddles. Later on, the coach I Wayan Sinti invited the workshop participants to play the composition entitled Gineman Pamungkah, Bapang Selisir, and Godeg Miring in pelog gamut created by him. Musical accompaniment in use was geguntangan gamelan.
Meanwhile, the closing appearance as a spontaneous presentation was delivered by Prof. Pande Sukerta, a professor of the ISI Surakarta. Together with all participants, he presented a composition combined with the songs like Balinese sinom and ginada. “This activity is intended to support the cultural heritage programs of the ISI Denpasar with the Ministry of Education and Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy,” said the Rector of ISI Denpasar, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Rai, after closing the workshop activity.
Prof. Rai also said the fiddle music during this time lived through a gap, so it required an assessment as well as dissemination to younger generations. Other than fiddle having an increasingly rare enthusiasts, similar condition was also experienced by flute instrument. This instrument was specially used in the arja operetta and prembon in more particular.
Chairman of the workshop, I Gede Arya Sugiarta, revealed that such a week-workshop had taken place smoothly. The workshop presented some speakers including I Wayan Sinti, Ida Bagus Arsaja, and Pande Gede Astawa, as well as Prof. Dr. T. Slamet Suparno, and Prof. Dr. Pande Made Sukerta from ISI Surakarta. “No fewer than 70 students and artists from the Art Studios throughout Bali learned to play the fiddle musical instrument,” he said.
